Alto by san carlo Selfridges – Food Review

Hey everyone,

I wanted to write about something a little different this time around. As it’s a new year I thought why not try out new things. This week I’ll be sharing with you my first ever restaurant review.

Let’s dive right in!

On the evening of new year’s day, I visited Alto by San Carlo in Selfridges with a friend. It’s located on their rooftop and can be accessed via a private express lift in the fragrance department of Selfridges.

Upon entry, it feels as though you’ve stepped into a stunning forest in the autumn time. You are met with an adorable bench, forest animal figures and even a cute little lamp. Everything down to the colour theme and artwork is remarkable and makes for an exciting eating experience. To get to the dining area you must walk through a well-decorated archway of trees.

The restaurant

The restaurant has very dim yet somewhat romantic lighting and an amazing view of London including the London eye. Located on the far end of the restaurant is a stunning bar. There are many tables available although they are about 5-8 inch apart from one another which makes for a cosy feel. As it was the evening of new year’s day, it was fairly quiet though I can image what I’d be like on a busy day. Could potentially get crowed and unbearable.

The Food

I ordered spaghetti carbonara, a glass of rose and chocolate bombe dessert for the thrill of seeing them pour the hot chocolate over it till it melted.

Upon ordering we were informed by the waiter that the food is made in traditional Italian style therefore the portion sizes would not be extremely large and to be honest the waiter did not lie. My bowl of pasta was tiny and I didn’t enjoy the taste. I still ate it as I was hungry. Although I didn’t enjoy my particular choice of pasta, I would say it is Value for money.

The service

Overall the experience was enjoyable. The staff were very polite and attentive and the ambience was one of a kind.

I would recommend this place for couples and groups of friends, families. (maybe not small kids) The cost of my meal, dessert and drink came to about £40 which I think is reasonably low-cost for the location and what was ordered. I would advise you not to come expecting your stomach to be filled. As it was located on the roof I would say they did a great job of keeping the restaurant warm. I hardly caught any chills.

I hope you’ve enjoyed reading this and will check the restaurant out for yourself.

Till next time,

Sasha x
