Manchester, Liverpool or Birmingham…Which city is the best?

Hey friends,

Happy New Year!

Welcome back! I know it’s been a while. I am super happy to be back to blogging again after a short time away. (Well since July 2021, but we won’t mention that lol) The pandemic affected my international travel plans and as a result, I resorted to making the most of what we have on our doorsteps here in the UK. Throughout 2021 I did a couple of short yet fun UK staycations with friends and in this blog post, I’ll be sharing with you a few amazing spots I visited and which city I think is the best based on where I had the most fun.

Let’s dive right in!

In May 2021 I visited Birmingham for three nights with my cousins. We stayed at the Birmingham Marriott hotel and as guests we had the luxury of using their pool and spa facilities. The purpose of the trip was mainly to relax and celebrated the fact that lockdown restrictions had been lifted. The highlight of the trip for me was visiting Tattu restaurant and bar in Barwick Street. The interior of this Chinese restaurant is amazing, the ceiling is covered in baby pink flowers, it has multiple floors and dining areas. It really feels as though you are dining in a tropical Asian garden. I wish I could tell you what I had to eat but I don’t remember. My meal was great although the dining experience was slightly tainted as a few orders at our table were wrong due to the Service of the staff. I would still highly recommend this place as your experience may be different from mine. Fun fact – Birmingham is the second-largest city in the UK after London and it is infamous for its shopping. If you are ever in town you should visit – Bullring it’s the ultimate shopping experience

Manchester! Manchester was incredible. Despite the lockdown restrictions that held me and my mates back from light night events and the group number limits we made the most of it. We stayed in Marriott Wolsey park (clearly, I have a thing for Marriott hotels) similar to the Marriott in Birmingham we had the luxury of enjoying the pool and spa facilities.the watergardens salford

The purpose of this trip was to celebrate my birthday which is in June and whilst researching things to do, I was so spoilt for choice. The first day was spent sightseeing at Media city which has a mixture of media buildings, leisure complexes, museums, and restaurants. My top two highlights from this trip have to be visiting 20 stories rooftop and dining Menagerie restaurant. I also stopped by to visit the Manchester United football stadium. I would highly recommend researching and visiting both locations. I spent the morning of my birthday shopping at The Trafford centre which is a shopping mall I would highly recommend you visit. Here’s another fun fact – The Trafford centre is the third-largest shopping centre in the UK.

Liverpool! One word – Unforgettable. As a group of eleven girls, we visited Liverpool in October and stayed in an awesome three-floor, seven-bedroom air b and b. The purpose of this trip was to celebrate my good friends Hen do. It was a trip none of us will ever forget. We even had our very own outdoor hot tub.

Similar to Manchester when planning, we were spoilt for choice. We focused on all the places that were best for celebrating ladies’ night every night. My top two highlights from this trip have to be visiting Boujee Restaurant and Bar and Masons Liverpool. This city is so vibrant and so much fun. I don’t think you could ever run out of things to do.

Now you’ve heard all I’ve had to say about each city, the question is which one is the best. In my humble opinion, it has to be Manchester. I enjoyed the mixture of outdoor sightseeing and indoor dining experiences. I also think it’s a great place for friends, families, and couples to visit. Coming in at a very close second has to be Liverpool, it’s a fantastic place for friends to visit.

I hope you’ve enjoyed reading this blog post and I hope you visit at least one of the cities mentioned.

Till next time,

Lots of love Sasha x

Yes Manchester was a fun trip- definitely a vibe! Don’t think I’ve ever been Liverpool but the ‘Boujee Restaurant’ looks like a bit of me lol !

  • Hi Sasha,
    happy new year!!!

I’m happy you visited B’ham, it has been my home for more than 4 years and my first UK base.

I can’t really give a full judgement because I’ve just been to L’pool and Birmingham, and I spent most of my time in my home town, so my opinion will be, of course, biased. People love or hate B’ham, there isn’t something in the middle. It mostly depends on the situation and places you can visit because the city has been in constant renovation for… ages? Decades, really. I can say B’ham is for shopping and nightlife (concerts when things will fully resume), museums if you like them. The canal area has many cool spots, and Tattu would be normally more exciting. The interiors, from the dining areas to the toilets – including the drinks – are awe-inspiring. It’s normally more caring and the staff is very attentive (if not scared of doing a mistake).
I visited Liverpool in 2019 but I went at the end of the weekend, so it was quiet and less lively than I was hoping. I love the peculiarity of its location but I have to explore it again.

When I’ll be to Manchester I can tell you more and I’ll make sure to spend as much time as I can.

    Enjoy your WE,
    Valentina
